The globally operating hygiene company is now relying on “green electricity” at its company site in Issum on the Lower Rhine, which is produced by its own photovoltaic system. With a nominal power of 125 kWp, the solar modules installed on Hall 9 and Hall 12 will now generate energy from renewable sources for OPHARDT Hygiene’s production facilities.
Climate-neutral by 2045 – that is OPHARDT Hygiene’s sustainability goal. To achieve this ambitious goal, the hygiene company known for its innovations is already undertaking numerous initiatives for the climate and the environment.
Even today, 75 percent of the energy it purchases comes from renewable sources. OPHARDT Hygiene is also constantly expanding its own energy infrastructure from renewable sources.
OPHARDT Hygiene with photovoltaic systems now at 4 locations
At the plants in Belgium, Canada and Ireland, the company has already been producing “green electricity” for several years via permanently installed photovoltaic systems on the production halls. Since May 2024, the company site in Issum on the Lower Rhine has also been one of the plants with its own solar system to produce electricity from renewable sources and feed it into the company’s supply network.
The system has a nominal output of 125 kilowatt peak (kWp) and is installed on the roofs of Hall 9 and Hall 12. With the new photovoltaic system at its German site, the globally active company is taking a significant step towards greater environmental protection.
Step by step to the sustainability goal
Besides the constant expansion of renewable energy sources, the use of recycled and recyclable materials also plays an important role in OPHARDT Hygiene’s sustainability strategy. This includes post-consumer recyclates (PCR), which are purchased via the popular Der Grüne Punkt program. In 2022, OPHARDT integrated more than 8,000 kilograms of PCR plastics into the production of its pumps and other small plastic components.
Product design is an equally important aspect. Ever since the company was founded in 1962, OPHARDT Hygiene has focused on durable product design in order to conserve resources sustainably. Winning the Green Product Award in 2022 for the SanTRAL® Plus brand is an example of a successful product concept in terms of sustainability.
