Winning gets a green light. The sustainable design of the SanTRAL® Plus series has been rewarded with a Green Product Award. We won this honour because of our focus on product lifespan and supporting the circular economy. Our long-lasting stainless steel washroom series has a proven track-record of being durable. We also make fully recyclable pumps that can be made with up to 100% post-consumer recycled plastic. We are pleased to add this award to the now five awards that the SanTRAL® Plus has won.
Green Product Award
Since 2013, the Green Product Award has been honouring products and services with sustainable and innovative designs. All projects are evaluated in 13 different categories from architecture, tiny houses, office products, packaging, to consumer goods and much more.
This year, 1500 projects from 52 countries were submitted for evaluation by the Green Product Awards. The steps to determine the winners were Pre-Selection, Nomination and Winner. The jury consisted of international experts who reviewed the submissions with their know-how and thus determined the winners.
We are all the more pleased that SanTRAL® Plus was able to have mastered each step of the evaluation and is now a winner in the Working World category.
Strong partner of the Green Product Award: IKEA Foundation
Since 1981, the IKEA Foundation has been promoting a good living culture and supports both the Green Product Award and the Green Concept Award. The life motto of the former IKEA founder Ingvar Kamprad was, “We are just at the beginning. A glorious future!” And this is precisely the Foundation’s guiding principle today. The mission of the IKEA Foundation is to support initiatives and organizations that follow this motto—including, for example, projects that improve the housing and living conditions of children or are dedicated to consumer education.
Increasing washroom sustainability—with OPHARDT and SanTRAL® Plus

This approach has driven us to relaunch our proven SanTRAL® Classic series with new, green elements.
Our approach has been vindicated by both the market and experts. Not only is SanTRAL® Plus our most successful product launch in OPHARDT history, but we are being recognized by organizations like the Green Product Award. This is, in part, because we designed the inner components of the dispensers to be made of post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic. This raw material is obtained from municipal recycling programs (yellow bins in Germany, blue bins in North America). The X10 pumps used inside the dispenser can also be made from PCR plastic.
The housings of the dispensers are made of stainless steel, which is made of up to 80% recycled content. This metallic housing gives the dispenser an extremely long life and helps it hold up to the most demanding public spaces.
The dispensers are designed as an open system. This means that all dispensers—whether soap, paper towel, or toilet paper dispensers—can be filled with products from many different suppliers. This allows facility managers to react quickly to shortages, because they are not tied to one supplier. The smart technology in the dispensers ensures maximum product availability, with sensors in the dispensers that record fill level and battery level in real time. If a dispenser is about to run out of product, staff receive a notification on their smartphone.
